Lighting your stage with LEDs and DMX controllers

Bright Output LED Par Can Not only are LED stage lights energy efficient, they don't run hot like traditional cans or halogen lighting. LED light banks are lightweight and compact making them extremely easy to move gig to gig. They also don't require the amount of power that standard stage lights pull, meaning that you won't have to worry about super thick gauge extension cords or tripping a breaker.
Once you've replaced a halogen bulb on a standard light bank, the expense and time will more than rectify the cost of an LED light bank. LED lights rarely, if ever burn out.
Chauvet's LED-PalletteChauvet's LED-Pallette offers a stand-alone mode, master/slave mode and DMX mode. The stand-alone mode allows a sing unit to run to the beat of the music, or the unit will auto change in auto mode. Master/slave allows you to link up to 32 units together without a controller. DMX mode enables the unit to be controlled by any universal DMX controller.
DMX provides 512 channels in a connection. Channels may be assigned in any manner. First the user must assign a starting address on the fixture that indicates the first channel reserved in the controller. There are many different types of DMX controllable fixtures, such as fog machines, gobos, laser lighting, stage wash and banks. Keep in mind when choosing the address for a specific device that the channels should never overlap. If they do, this will result in erratic operation of the fixtures. You can control multiple fixtures of the same type using the same starting address as long as the intended result is that of unison movement or operation. In other words, the fixtures will be slaved together and all respond identically.
DMX CableDMX fixtures are designed to receive data through a Daisy Chain. This is a connection where the DATA OUT of one fixture connects to the DATA IN of the next fixture. The order in which the fixtures are connected is not important and has no effect on how a controller communicates to each fixture. Use an order that provides the easiest and most direct cabling. Always use DMX compliant cables. Microphone cables are not rated to properly handle DMX signals and may cause unreliable operation. Even when using DMX compliant cables, stray signals may cause occasional flickering. For this reason it is imperative that DMX controllers should NEVER be used to operate pyrotechnics or other life threatening devices!
