So you want to add some cool bouncing colors and shapes to your dance floor or stage. Standard gobo lighting is one of the most cost effective ways to achieve this if you need DMX controllability. Priced around $130.00 new or roughly $75.00 in used operational condition, Chauvet Intimidator lights are a pretty hot deal. They offer stand alone operation, sound activation and 4 channel DMX operation.
My band had 2 DMX600 (they are now new and improved) and they worked pretty well. We had a few issues after many years of use with the gobo’s coming unglued from the wheel. Superglue and a little patience made them good-as-new. We also had issues with the occasional halogen light burning out at inopportune times. And the sheer weight and bulk of the unit made it pretty cumbersome to set up and move for gigs.
If you can afford to purchase LED lighting, I’m still sold on it. The old school stuff is a great bargain, but in the long haul you’ll be glad you’ve invested in something more reliable, efficient and lightweight.
